Poor quality photosThe pictures came out dull, lifeless, grainy, and hazy. Wasted over a dozen 4X6 sheets and hours of work trying different settings. Tried both the included software and the Mac-resident print utility. Neither produced acceptable pictures. Tried adjusting the color saturation level, paper type, and hue with no avail. Interestingly, the photos, when viewed in preview, are noticeably duller than the original on the screen, so something is happening during the translation. I had two HP's that produced excellent pictures but one kept jamming and the other had a print head that refused to fire despite a new cartridge. I was hopping for a better result with Cannon. I am returning this unit and continuing my search.

Awesome PrinterI bought this printer to be specificially used for printing photos. It produces the most amazing prints I have ever seen from an ink jet printer. I use glossy photo stock paper and use the highest settings and every print looks like a lab produced photo. When I copy printed photos with the scanner to the printer every detail is replacated and it is difficult to distinguish the original from the copy. I have not printed any text with this printer so I cannot comment on that aspect. I love the fact that it is networked. I can print to it from each computer in my home without worrying about a host computer. Finnally it is FAST. It produces 8x10 photos in a minute or so.
I love this printer and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to print photos.

Great all in oneWorks great with Max OS X Tiger 10.4. I downloaded the latest drivers from Canon, but not sure that was necessary. Had a little trouble printing from Preview or iPhoto until I found somewhere that it said to use the "Standard" preset instead of selecting the paper type. This unit replaced my fax, photo printer, and scanner, and the document feeder works great for work purposes. The software is very easy to use, much better than the software that came with my old Epson scanner. Love the fax -- can just leave my answering machine on, and if a fax comes in, the Canon picks it up.

Would not work out of box after two triesI've never had more problems with a Canon product than I did with the MX310. I'm an advanced computer user and couldn't get the unit to function after 5 hours or trouble-shooting, re-reading the manual, etc. It would not print or scan. I tired calling Canon tech support, but they were closed even though the product manual said they were open Saturday and it was within normal EST biz hours.
I was finally able to get a replacement unit and it didn't work either! Also, the software CD install made system-wide changes to my computer that I'm still repairing.
The unit is poorly designed. I practically had to turn it upside-down to reach the power and USB connectors. The USB connector and power cord inputs are inside a recessed box on the rear of the unit and are very difficult to reach (who's the idiots?). As other reviewers have written the ink carts are outrageously expensive.
I'm usually impressed with Canon products, but this one is a loser! I'm going with Epson. For one thing their ink carts don't cost an arm and a leg.
