| wearing your heart on your sleeve........First off, I am absolutely thrilled that their are reviewers out there who feel exactly the same way I did upon reading Eclipse.
While reading it the first time, I was disgusted with Bella's character. The endless whining/selfishness and the "best friend" nonsense she still harbored for Jacob made me sick. I often wondered how in the hell Bella could still regard him as a "best friend??" His character turned into a nasty, relentless annoyance who time and time again pushed her buttons to the extreme. (I finally thought she was seeing the light when she punched him in the face, but of course not.) My other major issue with this book was Bella's lack of regard for Edward. Every time a problem arouse involving Jacob, she had to soothe it over to make sure his "pain" was eased while ending the issue with "love you." AHHHHH....! Where is the love for Edward? Why is her character so keen on making amends and salvaging the friendship with the dog? Why does she keep walking over Edward and easing his pain second to Jacob's? What was the point in painting the beautiful Bella/Edward relationship in Twilight, when you are going to have him trampled on in Eclipse? One can only sympathize with Edward's character. I was secretly wishing Edward (or even Alice) would grow some balls and lay it on the line for Bella.
I made myself read it again to gauge whether I could take on a different perspective. I realized the second time around that there really was never a choice between the two. Her love for Edward has run too deep into her veins to even consider a different life. This does not mean that the way Bella's character went about it was less angering the second time around.
Besides from the twists of the love triangle, I enjoyed the background stories of Jasper and Rose. I love when Meyer gives us more information on her characters and how they came to be. I even enjoyed the werewolves background story. The fight scene with Edward/Victoria was exciting, but I do wish we could have heard about the other battle.
The book is worth the read if you are intent on finishing the series. But be warned, if you do NOT like love triangles and are determined to see the relationship between the star characters untouched, you may want to skip this one.

| Happily Ever AfterI loved this book. I was happy that Bella and Edward got everything they wanted. For those who did not like it, get over it, it's a fiction novel! They had enough hardship throughout other books. Also they didn't get off easily in this book. They had all that anticipation and preparation for big fight with Volturi. I could not stop reading with anticipation.
I was little bit disappointed how Bella turned into the vampire. Reading the previous novels I thought that it would be romantic, may be on their wedding night. I thought that it would be passionate. But I got over it because Edward was against Bella becoming a vampire from the beginning, he didn't want to do it. He was putting it off. By turning her into vampire to save her life was a logical way to save his soul. By biting her to save her life he was proving that he was good, not evil.
I like that the characters did not have sex before they got married. I love that Edward was the one that resisted the temptation and was putting it off for after the marriage. Also Bella was not certain if she wanted to get married at eighteen. She loved Edward more than anything in the world, but she was not sure about marriage, she wanted to wait.
I missed Bella almost fainting when Edward was kissing her in this book. Their relationship had to move forward. You could sense the build up that was leading to the s.e.x but it was not described. You just knew that it was over the top, wild. I love the way Stephanie hinted it in the book.
I like that Jacob had a happy ending too. I like that mortal enemies can become friends. You can even resolve most complicated problems and feuds if you willing to work on it. It was little bit wired that Jacob was destined for Bella and Edward's daughter. If you look from the other point of view, may be Jacob was never meant to be for Bella. He was always meant to be for her daughter. Read more...

| Cute, but shortI read this book in about half an hour. And I enjoyed every page. Yes it is primarily for children, as the 'tale's are like fairy tales for wizarding children, but I still loved reading them. They were delightful, straight to the point and each had a clear message.
I also enjoyed the 'notes' by Dumbledore after each tale. I thought it was cute and inventive of JK Rowling. Really, she can do no wrong and even with a book that's pretty juvenile, she still creates magic. Literally the only gripe I had is that there were not more of these wonderful tales. Read more...

| Good concept, badly writtenI expected 'The Shack' to be something similar to Mitch Albom's 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven', only with God actually being in the story.
Instead, I got a few chapters of a fairly interesting crime drama(considering the author is not, as far as I know, a 'professonal'), before it all deteriorated into a mix of evangelical proseltyzing and 'New Age' philosophy.
I think Young simply tried too hard to turn a simple 'spiritual fiction' novella into some sort of 'epic', meant to enlighten readers of all faiths...or no faiths.
Young's nontraditional views of God, instead of seeming revolutionary, or thought-provoking, just seemed to be too 'cute'. He lacks Albom's gift with words, the ability to make a profound point in a simple way. Much of Young's prose was paradoxically simplistic, easy to read, yet bogged down by complicated explanations of spiritual issues, delivered in a cloying, 'down home' tone. (Maybe pandering to the Oprah Book Club demographic?)
One of the more confusing sides of the story is Young's attempt to paint 'free will and independence' as the down side of mankind's failure to 'accept Jesus'. Even Young doesn't seem clear about what point he's trying to make here.
This book just boils down to another evangelical text, trying to 'save' or 'convert' people, but not offering anything really fresh or memorable.
Without giving away the ending...anyone familiar with the old joke that says that bad writers write themselves out of a corner by having the main character 'get hit by a bus', will see that idea in a whole new light! Read more...
