Doesn't Last That Much LongerI thought I would try the 74XL for my HP OfficeJet J6480 All in One for longer print cartridge life. I read somewhere that the XL might provide up to 750 pages of copies (depending of course on the print settings).
I got less than 500 copies on my last cartridge, set to fast draft quality, which is a lot less than I expected. Not as economical as the hype would lead you to believe. I will probably try another XL to see what happens, but my feeling is that it might be a bit overrated, at least from my experience.
no reason not to move upWhen Hewlett Packard introduced the 'XL' version of its Inkjet printer cartridges, I was skeptical. If it's that easy to fit three times the ink into a cartridge designed for my printer's unforgiving cartridge socket for roughly twice the price of the standard size, why did HP start out with the smaller size in the first place?
Truth be told, the question still lingers.
But I hardly think about it anymore as I cut down on shipping costs for cartridge renewals and enjoy the advantage side of the price differential between the two approaches. The ink is the same high quality (experience has convinced me to go with the HP brand cartridges rather than third-party competitors) you know form the standard HP 74.
All HP cartridges come with a postage-paid envelope that allows you to return your spent cartridge for recycling/refilling/remanufacturing.
The only reason not to move to the XL would be cash flow issues if you're limping from cartridge to cartridge. Excluding that, get the XL.
must haveDon't bother buying regular 74 ink cartridges. XL is a must have for any anyone who prints more than 10 sheets in a day.
Ordering problemI was unpleasantly suprised to find that the two items ordered has to come from different suppliers. This of course requires double shipping charges. One would think that the 74xl and 75xl ink cartridges, which go together much like salt and pepper, would be available from the same supplier? Live and learn, I guess! I am taking this review system as my only option (other than the phone) to vent my dissatisfaction. I looked for a way to use E-mail, but can't seem to find such an option.
quantity and price - a win!As I mentioned for the HP 75XL inkjet cartridge is the same for this one (black ink only) - get the larger size AND HP brand inks for better quality and to allow for quantity printing. The smaller cartridges just don't cut it in terms of the number of pages it can print before running out. And save by buying it through Amazon, unless you can find a local retailer with better savings - I sure couldn't and am glad I checked with Amazon right away.
